Public Meeting – Out There and Right Here: Online Learning in Lewes
A public meeting about online learning and how you can make the most of ‘MOOCS’ (massive, open, online courses)
Learning online can be frustrating, for all sorts of good reasons. But by understanding a bit about basic digital literacy you can access the wide world of materials ‘out there’, including free online courses. Social learning is key to most successful education and there are plenty of interesting people right here in Lewes who you might well enjoy studying with – helping keep you on track with a course, and motivating you to learn more and more deeply. In this public meeting Dr Wendy Maples, who has over 25 years’ experience in higher education, including at the Open University, and is the founder of the University of Us, will explore the prospects for enjoyable online learning.
The ‘Out There and Right Here’ meeting will look at:
- some of the major platforms – such as FutureLearn and Coursera – hosting online courses produced by some of the most prestigious universities around the world;
- the different elements of digital learning literacy, and why being a ‘digital native’ might not help you to study, while knowing how to conduct a library search will;
- how to find better online courses;
- how to enjoy online learning (spoiler alert: it’s by sharing your learning with others).
