A short taught course on preparing for university, using the best of online guidance, the popular text Good Essay Writing, and up-to-date academic expertise.
According to recent research by the academic publisher Sage, the majority of students say they WISH they’d been better prepared before going to university. In particular, students wish they’d had information on:
- Study skills
- Preparing for university
- Critical thinking and writing.
And in their first term or year, the top preparation students say they wished they’d had? Academic writing skills.
Uni Ready? is taught by Dr Wendy Maples in small groups or on a one-to-one basis. You will be guided through an online ‘Preparing to Study’ course, have a short series of set tasks to complete, including a diagnostic essay, and tutorials on adapting to academic culture, the expectations of you as an undergraduate student and the essentials of writing an undergraduate essay.
Tutorials take place in Lewes over three mornings or afternoons and you will be expected to complete preparatory tasks in between. At the end of the three meetings, you will write a short, academic essay on which you will receive feedback on your writing and guidance about making the very most of your higher education.
The total cost for the course is £270. The first four students to sign up will receive Redman, P. and Maples, W. (2017) Good Essay Writing, 5th Edn., London, Sage, for free.
